Director of Williamsburg Campus Child Care

WCCC is currently hiring a full-time Director. The ideal candidate for the Director position will be an experienced early childhood education professional with significant experience managing and leading in an educational context and a passion for supporting the health, growth, and development of children.

Williamsburg Campus Child Care (WCCC) is an independent 501(c)(3) organization, providing day care and early childhood education to Williamsburg families. WCCC has been housed in the Sarah Ives Gore Child Care Center on the campus of the College of William & Mary since 1981. Through fostering and maintaining continuing relationships with the College of William & Mary, the child care program is enriched by the intellectual, creative and physical resources of the College.

Academic programs, such as Education and Psychology, regularly participate in the activities of WCCC and student interns and employees work closely with the full-time teachers to gain valuable experience in early childhood education and maintain a low student to teacher ratio.

WCCC is licensed by the State of Virginia and provides meals and snacks through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). Furthermore, WCCC has been designated a “Color Me Healthy Center” through the Nutrition and Physical Activity Self-Assessment for Chlld Care Centers (NAP SACC) pilot project.

WCCC offers a warm, friendly, and professional environment, with countless opportunities to make a positive impact on the lives of children. WCCC serves approximately 75 children with a full-time staff of 20 talented and passionate educators and administrators. The quality of WCCC is rooted in a strong community, one that actively fosters family participation in the classrooms and promotes communication across staff, teachers, families, and the Board of Directors.

WCCC’s goal is to meet the developmental, emotional, social, physical, and intellectual needs of children. WCCC respects and accommodates the developmental stages of all children and promotes positive self-image.

The ideal candidate for the Director position will be an experienced early childhood education professional with significant experience managing and leading in an educational context and a passion for supporting the health, growth, and development of children. S/he will be a strong communicator and manager with a proven ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and a natural customer service orientation. S/he will have a demonstrated ability to provide vision to an organization while also managing processes, including attention to timelines and tasks to be completed as necessary, and have the flexibility and poise to solve problems that arise unexpectedly. Description of Responsibilities

Reporting to WCCC’s Board of Directors, the Director manages the daily operations of WCCC. Core areas of responsibility include program management, organizational management, financial management, human resources management, and public relations. To continue WCCC’s success and improve the services for its families, the next Director will:

·       Operate an efficient, organized, and high-quality center. The Director will implement systems and procedures to ensure smooth operation of WCCC. S/he will set a vision for providing the best care and learning environment for young children and for increasing efficiencies in the daily operations of WCCC.

·       Manage a dedicated and caring staff. The Director will identify, hire, and retain a team of high quality, diverse staff, keeping turnover low and morale high. S/he will create an environment that enables teachers to perform their best work, and provide mentoring and effective support to help teachers improve their skills as needed.

·       Enrich WCCC’s developmental offerings for children. The Director will create new and innovative programs to enhance the daily curriculum. S/he will provide guidance and support for classrooms to improve the ability of teachers to focus on children and minimize and quickly address disruptions.

·       Make wise resource allocation decisions. The Director will effectively manage WCCC’s budget and work within available resources. S/he will work with the Board to ensure the financial sustainability and health of WCCC.

·       Build the early childhood education program. The Director will create a sustainable enrollment in the school’s program. The Director will increase the competitiveness of WCCC’s program, improving upon and generating more interest in a program that already produces outstanding results.

·       Maintain accreditation and general compliance. The Director will ensure WCCC is compliant with all rules and regulations and maintain WCCC’s accreditation. S/he will review and promptly address recommendations and issues raised by accreditation representatives.

·       Work effectively with parents, staff, W&M, and the Board. The Director will provide meaningful and effective communication to all stakeholders through a variety of channels. S/he will create a collegial and caring environment that values the diversity and perspectives of all members of the WCCC community.

Qualifications

Educational qualifications:

·       Bachelor’s Degree or Endorsement in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, Psychology, or child related field from an accredited college or university or comparable combination of education and experience.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications, experience, and qualities:

·       Teaching and education management experience, including experience in a preschool or child development center

·       A deep and proven commitment to the success of all children and a strong belief in the potential of every child

·       General knowledge of licensing criteria for child care programs

·       Experience managing a staff, including hiring, evaluation, mentoring, and creating performance improvement plans

·       A demonstrated ability to manage processes, including attention to timelines, due dates, tasks to be completed, as well as to solve problem that arise unexpectedly

·       Ability to relate meaningfully and effectively with children, parents, and staff

·       Strong communication and customer service skills

·       Demonstrated fundraising and/or grant writing experience

·       Experience leading an organization in developing a vision and strategic plan for growth and success

·       A graduate degree in early childhood education or a related field is preferred

The Director will be employed by Williamsburg Campus Child Care (WCCC), an independent 501(c)(3) organization, not The College of William & Mary.  WCCC currently does not offer health insurance or retirement for its employees. WCCC offers paid time off, a casual working environment, and continuing education opportunities.
